If any of my diabetic friends wears a Freestyle Libre 2 sensor have you ever got a alert saying high glucose level and just to compare you prick your finger and it said you are in a normal range and not high? Well that happen to me this morning i got a alert saying high glucose level so i pricked my finger and it said i was in a normal range. I have not been using a sensor but a couple weeks and do not know much about how it works compared to sticking your finger, so if anyone has any⦠read more
Yes, sometimes they do not line up - they are measuring different things so it's like comparing apples to oranges
If your blood sugar is rising OR falling a finger stick can look quite different from a sensor scan - that is to be expected
The Libre 2 is measuring sugar in the fluid around your cells, not whole blood like the stick test so it can take time to "migrate" - sugar passing from blood to the cells or cells burning up the sugar close to them while it is still higher in the blood stream (I will post a cartoon from the maker - it's in mmols so the numbers will look at little strange but will give you the idea)
It does all work out in the end but sometimes the Libre will "lag" the stick test by up to 15 minutes
i am a new libre 2 user.if your bs is rising, finger prick will be higher than libre.if falling finger prick will be less than libre.if stable readings of the two should be much closer together. In my case,"false"lows as shown on libre can fool me into treating a hypo which doesn't yet exist so i finger prick before attempting to treat. For determining trends, libre wins every time.I have been able to lower my HbA1c to 42.( libre makes a very good diabetic police officer!!!!
Thank you Jennifer for responding back. I used the OneTouch Verio Reflect Glucose Monitor. When i got the high alert on my freestyle Libre i then checked my sugar with a finger prick. I'm not going to give up on the freestyle Libre i just didn't understand the to readings but after Graham and you explain it more i think i understand it better. I appreciate the information very much, I try to take my diabetes very serious and have been doing good up until my hospital visit in April where i was put on these steroids and it has gotten my diabetes all over the place i am finally down to a 5mg a day of the steroids were i started off with 75mg a day i have a few more days of steroids and hopefully after are out of my system I'll be able to get my numbers in better control.
