Disposing Of Used Strips, Etc.
Hello friends - how do you dispose of your used blood test strips and lancets? I had one of those red plastic biohazard boxes that is overflowing, so bought a new one from Walgreens. It says you can mail it back when full, but the fine print is that you get the mailing label separately (and no doubt pay for it) by going to a website. The box is smaller than the old one; I’ve found them hard to find - at least not at Walmart lately.
@A DiabetesTeam Member (had a look) - there is an Ontario Program so yes the pharmacy will take the full one and give you a new one
I was given my sharps container by my pharmacist, when I was diagnosed. I assume that I give it back to the pharmacy when it’s full & hopefully they’ll give me another.
Pharmacy supply bio hazard containers on prescription.when full return and request new one.Just asked for larger one to be able to put libre 2 sensors and applicators in.Apparently empty insulin pens can be included too( somewhere to put razor blades!)
I burn mine (live in the country and burn most of my trash) but otherwise, at least up my way the Pharmacies will take the (biohazard) bins free of charge - worth an ask
Strips in the trash, use freestyle libre 2 now no lancets or strips. keep jug from sterile water for sharps in like insulin injection needles.
