The next in a series of Diabetic Complications that we want to avoid

(credit to the Mayo Clinic for the paraphrased information in this post)

This complication affects the eyes - and losing my vision is pretty high on the "I never want to experience list"

Blood vessels that feed the light sensitive tissue in the retina get damaged due to high sugar levels over time

While most diabetics will develop some level of Retinopathy (called NDPR or Non-Proliferative Diabetic Retinopathy – which is… read more

I was diagnosed with type two and had eye problems especially dry then went on a keto diet and fixed the problems. My eye doctor told me keep doing what I’m doing after seeing the improvement. Type 2 isn’t something people need to live with it’s easily reversed.

My diabetes has caused severe dry eyes and then developed Blepharitis (a disease which causes eyelids to swell, cracked and itchy). No cure for this and have had four flare ups in one and a half year. She said diabetics who have it under control like me can still get it. I got it fours year after being diagnosed and off pills for three years. She also put me on a very expensive eye drops Ceque. If you don’t have Medicare it could cost around $600 monthly.

I follow a Low Carb/High Fat (LCHF) diet restricted to 2000 calories and less than 130 net carbs per day

It is mostly based on the Atkins 100 diet which is their "maintenance diet" for those that use targeted KETO to lose weight

My diet works great for me (A1C has been 5.4/5.5 for almost 7 years now) and I don't take meds BUT my family also has zero history of premature heart disease so I am gambling that I can tolerate the higher fat percentage in my diet (no matter how vigilant you are when almost 60% of calories comes from fat you end up eating too much saturated fat which is the heart killer)

My cholesterol and triglycerides are also normal

It's a myth that "fat makes you fat" - I lost and kept off, 60 pounds on this diet - it's all about calories in/out that maintain weight and it's all about carbs in that effects blood sugar - not more complicated than that
