I started taking cinnamon supplements and dropped apple cider vinegar supplements and noticed FBG higher. I also take metformin. Could the cinnamon supplements affect taking metformin? I am going to go back to the apple cider vinegar supplements and drop the cinnamon supplements to see if that makes a difference.

Hi @A DiabetesTeam Member, I actually was talking to my pharmacist yesterday about this. I was asking her about taking magnesium , as I heard it helps lower blood sugar & helps with sleep. She said the affects are minimal. I also asked her about taking cinnamon supplements & she said that she wouldn’t advise that & said she’d rather me take a low dose, gentle magnesium, then cinnamon. I’m seeing my doctor next month & going to ask her to check my magnesium, to see if it’s low. I feel like I need to be careful because I already take meds I need, & don’t want to do damage to my liver or kidneys by taking things that I may not need. Anyways, just my perspective, interesting that I was talking to my pharmacist yesterday.
