i am on a1c and taking metforin for over a year and now they want me to start wegovy for weight loss is it still posible to become diabitiec and have your a1c go to 6.5 and when that time comes as type 2 diabities what would the next medication for type 2 diabitiecs and when there diagnoised with diabities type 2 are they hosptialized
A couple of questions there
Yes, when taking metformin, Wegovy or any other drug for that matter you can still become Diabetic if you cross the A1C 6.5 line
While the drugs are trying to manage and slow progression a lot has to do with your system, how it responds etc
And NO, a diagnosis of Type 2 does not result in hospitalization in the overwhelming majority of cases. In fact, about 30% of people out there that have Type 2 don't even know they have it (have not been diagnosed) and their system is being damaged without any outward signs at all (at least initially)
There is a handful of people who are hospitalized when diagnosed but only because it has got so out of hand that develop a deadly condition called DKA (diabetic ketoacidosis) which can result in coma/death
If you go on the Wegovy, which is a weight loss drug but has the exact same active ingredient as Ozempic the diabetes drug AND you successfully lose weight that will normally put downward pressure on your A1C
A1C levels can be directly related to your weight and often if you can achieve "normal weight" (as measured by BMI) then you can return your A1C to non-diabetic levels
