Is Mounjaro Save To Take
A DiabetesTeam Member asked a question 💭

I was prescribed the injectable mounjaro.. But I'm afraid of taking it it says it's been known to cause thyroid cancer in animals but it's not known if it causes it in humans I already take metformin 1000 mg twice A-day he said this was needed so it can help me out. I haven't taken it yet it's just that I'm fearful I know it's probably good for me but I'm just fearful how can I get past this?? My doctor never mentioned this to me she said just to take it once a week

I'm not trying to minimize your concern because yes, the drug is potentially dangerous as is just about any drug you would take

But have you seen what happens when your blood sugars go uncontrolled?

Have you watched anyone die from complications of Diabetes - seen the blindness, amputations, going in for dialysis three times a week. The vascular dementia that is so bad they can't understand what is happening to them and can't recognize loved ones - the neuropathy and blisters that cause skin to die on the legs - going to hospital to have necrotic tissue removed and having a home care nurse come in to give IV antibiotics to try and keep gangrene from setting in?

That IS WHAT WILL HAPPEN, no doubt, if your sugars go uncontrolled

You have to weigh that against what "might" happen if you take a drug to prevent that

Of course you have a relatively "safe option" - you can go on Insulin and if you choose one of the human insulins (as opposed to the synthetics) then you are using a totally "natural product" that is identical to what you are already producing

The Doc wouldn't be suggesting the drug if you didn't need it - you need it to prevent the complications that happen 100% of time if you don't control it

Yes, it's your choice but it's not like you have safe alternatives so you have to pick the best of a bunch of crappy choices...

I am on 2 of the Insulin analogs.
I think that I will stick with what has been on the market for a good time.
Would hate to switch to the newer drugs before safety has been established.
I was never one to jump on the bandwagon.

Thanks for the advice I never thought about it that way! although I'm not that sick where I cant control my blood sugar is just a little bit high that the doctor said you need a little bit of help.
I guess.. I already take metformin a 1000 mg twice A-day she said that this would help me and even help me lose weight I was just concerned about all the side effects I know all medications have side effects that's the one fear I've always had you know when I have to take new medicine But I believe you're right and that's good advice I think I'll end up taking it and go from there I will update you and let you know how it works out.. It looks like a pretty good website to stay in touch and to learn more and educate myself more about diabetes.. I had joined other groups but I never got any answers? it didn't seem like anybody wanted to help me out I don't know why? you're the 1st right now so far.. to reply back
