Skin Cancer Wound
A DiabetesTeam Member asked a question 💭

Good day
I have had skin cancer removed on my leg and I go every week to have the dressings changed but there is very little change in the wound! What can I do to speed this healing process up?

@A DiabetesTeam Member is absolutely right, the damage is there.
There are simple things you can try that have helped a few people.

You are immune compromised, and anything to improve that situation, might help a little. Long term high blood glucose leads to that among other diabetic complications and comorbidities.

Maintaining proper hydration, if you are allowed by your doctors, can help. That is 1/2 - 3/4 ounce water for every pound daily. This sometimes effects a slight change.

If you can, keep your everyday numbers below 7.8(139), for a chance of a slight change.

For a few, visualizing healing over time and positive attitude seem to help a little.

But those things being said, get to a wound care specialist immediately.

Baby steps. We all need to do what we can.

And never give up, never surrender, never ever.
Keep fighting on.
Have a blessed day.

As a diabetic, wound healing, particularly on the legs is a huge challenge.

This is one of the things that "home remedies" are of little value and you need the assistance/guidance from wound care specialists.

Diabetes restricts/damages the blood vessels going to the legs. The circulation becomes permanently damaged/restricted. That is what leads to the slow healing.

Nothing much we can do at home to improve the circulation so mostly it's about keeping the wound dressed/cleaned (whatever instruction you have been given) to prevent infection and taking any anti-biotics prescribed (even though they mess with blood sugar).
