Can And Does Your Carb Number Change Over The Course Of This Disease?
A DiabetesTeam Member asked a question 💭

I had been working on another topic when Henry our Gate Keeper asked me a question about Carb Numbers.

For those unfamiliar with the term a "Carb Number" is simply the number of net carbs that a Type 2 individual can consume (generally in a 4 to 6 hour period) and not send their blood sugar beyond the normal blood sugar range - so no higher than 7.8 mmols/140 points.

Many of us use "our carb number" which is unique to each of us based on how diabetes is effecting us as individuals, to set… read more

I got in good control of my diabetes with one year in 2019. I asked how long they thought I had diabeties and they said 6 months. I think it was years since I did not get blood work for years and I had a lot of side affects by time of diagnosis. Knowing then side affects prior to diagnosis was a wake up call and have stuck to low carb eating ever since. No cheat days ever since.

I understand some people no matter how hard they try have problems caused by other factors.
I just do not understand why a some of people here say they eat very badly and say they will change but some don’t. I know of two people who lost limbs to this disease. A leg and a foot. It eventually killed the one who lost his foot. He was my priest.

My best friends husband is having problems with staying in control as he cheats on a weekly basis but mist times is good. He says he would rather cheat then deprive him of food that he loves. He is type 2 and on metformin and now is on Rebelysis. He is sick all the time and has headaches and a lot of lows so much do the he needs a glucose meter. He is a retired doctor. When I told him my A1C was 5.7 and off meds he said he wished his was that good. So you can guess what I said…….

For me I began this journey on Metformin sigh my liver hated it and rebeled...so in 2020 I advocated for myself to be placed on Insulin. My numbers have gotten so much better, My Liver enzymes are finally normal range after two years and my Live that was once fatty and had Cirhossis ( non alcohaulic) is now by CT language "Unremarkable" which actually means it is remarkably AWESOME!
Now as to can carb numbers change over time. Absolutely in my case. I started having to be pretty strict and now I can have more carbs,
It depends also on my activity . But I have never regretted going on insulin

I agree with you. Watch what you eat , no cheat days. It only encourages more cheat days. Exercise is so important.

I am trying to exercise daily and follow a good diet. I was in severe pain and had a steroid injection. The injection did a number on my glucose readings. I am so glad that I have the continuous glucose monitor!
