As A Canadian Diabetic Should You Get Your 4th Covid Dose "now" Or Wait For The New Formula?
A DiabetesTeam Member asked a question 💭

Bit of a public service announcement for the Canuck's in the group.

I posed the question to both my family doctor (yesterday) and my Pharmacist earlier this afternoon (who I give far more weight to then any Doc - after all a Pharmacist is an "expert" in medication of all types).

If you have been following the news we are getting conflicting views from Health Canada, Chief Medical Officers from the various provinces and even the Regional Health officials.

I asked specifically as a Diabetic… read more

Is Covid Causing A Spike In Type 2's?
A DiabetesTeam Member asked a question 💭

Shifting gears a little today from my normal (tips) to post up some excerpts from an article I was reading this morning that may mean our little group here might start to balloon in the next few months.

There had been some early data suggesting that Covid may result in higher Type 2 diagnosis since the disease attacks the pancreas, but now almost two years into the mess there has been some time for some solid analysis - so here is a bit

Research at Harvard Medical School found that of 551… read more

I believe that Covid is the reason I have diabetes. It was 6 months after having Covid that I was diagnosed. I looked back in my records and there was not even a sign of elevated blood sugar. I have… read more

Does Anyone Still Keep Up With Covid Boosters And Other Vaccines?
A DiabetesTeam Member asked a question 💭

I had a Covid about a year ago and was not to sick but did not enjoy the experience. It was worse than the common cold but not bad for me, I recovered in about 2 weeks with no lingering effects. (I did have original shot and the boosters.) I had a Covid booster about 4 months ago along with a pneumonia vaccine and just had my flu shot last week. I am thinking about getting the next version of the Covid booster in late October. My doctor always encourages me to get all the vax available for my… read more

Do You Consider Skipping/delaying Breakfast If Your Fasting Number Is High?
A DiabetesTeam Member asked a question 💭

I have seen many post up this concern when they woke up to a high fasting number.

I never, as in never-ever, skip breakfast because of a high fasting number

Why?

Because as I have posted many times, Fasting Numbers are the result of sugar released by the Liver when we are not eating for extended periods (sleeping, more than about 5 hours between meals).

There is a number of reasons why the Liver might get a little too generous with the sugar supply BUT the only way to "turn it off" is to eat… read more

What's New On The Diabetes Front?
A DiabetesTeam Member asked a question 💭

I was reading a few articles and came across a couple that were interesting based on two studies that were just published

The first was from a Canadian University in British Columbia that was crunching numbers from the Covid Pandemic and looking at the long term effects of a Covid infection

(I have posted a bit about this before but now they have some solid numbers)

They looked at 620,000 people who had been (lab diagnosed) as having been infected with Covid and "did not have diabetes" at… read more

Did Anyone Notice That Your Blood Sugar Became Elevated For Several Days After The Covid Vaccine?
A DiabetesTeam Member asked a question 💭

I just got my third covid vaccine (booster) on September 9, 2021. Ever since my blood sugar goes up more every day. Today is 14 days since the vacc and my sugar is very high 200-304. It's never like this but I made notes after the other two vaccs which were in March and April and both the vaccines did the same thing to me. Has any of this happened with any of you?

Has Anyone Had Weight Loss Surgery To "cure" Diabetes?
A DiabetesTeam Member asked a question 💭

I have been told that after having this surgery I would no longer have to treat my diabetes. However I am wondering if I would be trading one set of problems for another. Since I have a weight problem being approved is not a problem, but I prefer to do things as naturally as possible. Some insight would be helpful and appreciated.
