Since you were just diagnosed first off I wouldn't worry about much else other than enjoying your trip - you can think about the Diabetes when you get back. It is initially a slow moving disease so you don't need to jump in with both feet "today". It can often take a year to two years to get your (program) sorted out.

If the Doc has put you on medication or suggested you use a test kit it is no problem travelling with them to most destinations but would suggest you carry original (paper) copies of any prescriptions you will bring with you and keep them in the bottles you get from the pharmacy rather then putting them in a pill case - at least to get through customs.
