I remember being told I can have as much coffee and tea as I want. Now I'm reading that caffeine is one of four bad things that affect BG? Any experience or authorities on the subject? What's the latest?
I agree I do not add sweetener to tea or coffee but if my numbers are low I have a frothy coffee, the Nescafe sachets do have some added sugar but these I limit, just a treat.
We mainly drink tea 🫖

Over the last 2 weeks I've been having low sugar levels during afternoon and evening hours. Low readings vary from 54 - 68. My diabetes dietitian says it's called rebound hypoglycemia because I've been swimming 6 hours a week and have lost 35 lbs in last 3 months. Ive lost a total of 56 lbs in 1 year and need to lose another 80 lbs. I eat snack… read more
What are considered normal/acceptable glucose levels for a type 1 diabetic? People ask is your diabetes under control. What would be considered under control?
All of us here have either been diagnosed with Diabetes or have someone close to us that have been given the news
So what is the "criteria" that separates us from Joe or Jane SugerEater?
Currently it is simply having an A1C, above 6.5% (47.5 mmol's in the IFCC scale) "twice in a row" measured 90 days apart
That's it, that's all - that "test" is all that is required for the Doc to determine "You have Diabetes"
No matter what you do after that, no matter how you control your blood sugar - no… read more

While both have ultimately the same effect/symptoms:
Memory Loss
Difficulty with problem-solving
Confusion/thinking problems; and,
Problems with language usage
The causes of each are quite different
Alzheimer’s is mostly due to aging and changes in brain chemistry – there is little we can do about getting old
Diabetics are at increased risk of developing Alzheimer’s (38% more likely then Joe/Jane average) however, it is Diabetes Dementia that is more likely to set in

In addition with good blood glucose readings I'd suggest taking ginkgo biloba which may help with circulation of blood to the brain but NOT as a substitute for good blood glucose control.
The next in a series of Diabetic Complications that we want to avoid
(credit to the Mayo Clinic for the paraphrased information in this post)
This complication affects the eyes - and losing my vision is pretty high on the "I never want to experience list"
Blood vessels that feed the light sensitive tissue in the retina get damaged due to high sugar levels over time
While most diabetics will develop some level of Retinopathy (called NDPR or Non-Proliferative Diabetic Retinopathy – which is… read more
Hi. I am Paul Swann from Quezon City, Philippines and new to this site. Still under observation by Cardio on diabetes until June 2023. Have come across a friend who is diabetic and recommended Cyclocarya Paliurus which he has used 2x a day and his bloodworks are good, exercises 4 days a week 7T-8T steps each day and limits his carbo intake. BP and blood sugar are within normal limits. Has anyone checked into this? Would appreciate any input. Thank you.
Hi Graham, agree with you and Henry that the critical areas are regular exercises, watching the portions eaten, lose the weight, drink and eat healthier. I want to prove to myself and my Cardio that… read more
According to data demographics in the USA.
We have been told that the diabetes incidence of the general population of the USA is almost 12%
Diabetes is much more common in the 65+ age group than we were led to believe.
29.2% of all adults 65 are diabetic.
By age 75 it is almost 35% diabetic.
So as diagnosed with diabetes, we are not alone. We are almost 1 in every 3, 65 year olds as diabetic.
In my church, there are 11 of us 65 +. All but 3 are diabetic
How have I obtained this… read more

Remission is now a consensus definition that states its a condition where the A1C of a diagnosed Type 2 Diabetic is below 6.5% (48 mmol/mol in the metric A1C scale) for minimally 90 days "without the use of any anti-diabetic medications"
To remain in remission you must maintain a sub-6.5% A1C, without medication, on each successive A1C test
What that does NOT mean is that you have cured it, rolled back to normal, can go out and eat pizza chased with coke or that if you don't slip one tiny… read more

In case anyone doesn't understand it is High, uncontrolled Blood Sugar levels that KILLS US 100% of the TIME
And it's not a nice quick painless death
