I have gastroparisis. I was diagnosed with an endoscopy. I have nausea, vomiting, will burp up stomach contents and the worst is when it feels like my insides are in a vise it clenches and releases. Vomiting releases it but will take hours.

I have gastroparesis, used to have severe nausea with wretching especially when trying to have bowel movements, as Gastroparesis gives me constipation. I at times could not tolerate solid foods and had to eat fluids or soft or pureed foods. I have had GI issues since birth, had chronic diarrhea for 53 years then all of a sudden constipation up to 5 days at times, I have hiatal hernia so comtipation gave me bloating and pushed my stomach further up the hiatus hole, so very bad pains. So for me I have to take medications to prevent constipation as my vagal nerve is damaged. For me the gastroparesis issues started before beind diagnosed diabetic, so doctor did not think of gastroparesis and did so many GI tests some I never heard of. A person in this group mentioned gastroparesis so i asked my GI doctor and she stated yes that could be it, as I have lifelong GI issues since birth and I have autoimmune disease since age 15. So in my case I have autoimmune acquired gastroparesis.

When diagnosed diabetic I did not know about the gastroparesis, so joined this group who gave me infomation about diabetic diet and so on, but nothing was really working, till someone told me about gastroparesis, so I tried different diet and it worked for me, found out a few months later about the gastroparesis and GI doctor was happy to hear I was on a modified Keto diet (100 Carbs per day & only use Keto for recipes with almond flour instead of other flours). Diabetes diet is different from gastroparesis so my modified diet fits both conditions for me. I tested many foods and know now what I can eat, I am reintroducing some foods slowly as tolerated. Keto is not for everyone, people type 1 or type 2 on insulin should not do Keto as this can put them in DKA. I do not follow the 20 restricitve Carbs per day that Keto prones, nor the 50 they suggest for diabetics, I get too many hypos so 100 Carbs is my minimum hence the modified diet. But for most the gastroparesis diet will help, I just happen to have several other underlying conditions hence the needs for a very modified diet. What works for me may not work for others.

Diabetic = nothing white as in bread, pasta, rice, potatoes and high fiber
Gastroparesis = everything white and low fiber

It gets complicated at times for some people when you have both conditions

There are a few medications, the one I am on is called Domperidone (Motilium is the other name), it helps the stomach start contracting to try and empty out the contents sooner rather then building up and causing bloating and burps and gas. There are some which control nausea and or vomitting for those with advanced gastroparesis as it progresses. Some people at times require tube feeding when it gets real bad, but usually that takes decades to develop to that point or a severe blockage. When I have attacks I eat soft, pureed or liquids till it settles down. The thing about gastroparesis is the foods stays longer in stomach, so once it is finally released into intestines this spikes sugars very high as you now have the equivalent of several meals in the stomach, so a lot of sugar gets absorbed all at once, so using gastroparesis diet is what is needed as it clashes with diabetes diet. Hope they find out soon what is ailing you
