Keep your legs elevated and call your doctor.

There are a number of causes.

Poor circulation (a known diabetic complication)

Heart or Kidney disease (another pair of diabetic complications)

Steroids, Calcium Channel Blockers, NSAID's (which include aspirin), anti-depressant medication and a few other drug classes

Some Diabetes medications.

But sometimes it's just because you spent too much time on your feet. If it persists then ask your Doc to check it out.

You need to see a doctor to determine the why. We cannot diagnose you without examining you, or without knowing your medications and health condition, only a doctor can do so. People can tell you what it might be from, but we cannot diagnose your personal leg swelling issue over the internet, you really need to see a doctor, or if you cannot get an appointment soon, you can speak to your pharmacist who can look into your medications and contact your doctor if need be. Swollen legs is a symptom of many diseases, it is better a doctor examines you and rules out all possibilities.

In my case for some odd reason which took doctors a while to figure it out, I tend to have swollen ankles when I am off steroids (most normal people with normal medical history swell up while on steroids), I also tend to have swollen Uvula while off steroids, which is why on top of my arthritis before being diagnosed with diabetes, I was put on steroids to control all of these issues, also because I have 4 auto-immune diseases. I am having a rough time now that doctors are slowly decreasing my steroids because it raises sugar levels and makes diabetes harder to control. Fortunately my legs have not swelled up much, but I am still on 1/2 my usual steroid dosage of 5 mg per day (used to be on 10 mg per day). As soon as we decreased the dosage for about 1 week time my ankles swelled up and my Uvula swelled up also, but both have been ok for now. It is my arthritis that is flaring up now though.

So as you can see not everyone's body reacts the same way as most people do, it is individual to each person. We have named the usual culprits in our answers to you, but those need a doctor to confirm and treat if need be. It may be a complication of your diabetes causing other health issues such as heart or kidney failure. Please go see a doctor ASAP as it must be almost 3 weeks now as this post is almost 1 week old. You may end up in hospital if you wait too long to consult someone. I hope even if this does not give you the answers you are seeking, that you can understand we are patients also in here, we do not diagnose each other, we can only give advice about diabetes and so on, but for a definitive answer only a doctor who examines you physically can answer your specific questions.

Are you eating a lot of salt? Also if you are on other medication. Look at the side effects. It could be a side effect of your meds. But first call your Doctor. God bless
