Asking For Advice And Your Experience Regarding Natural Treatments For Diabetes Type 2
A DiabetesTeam Member asked a question 💭

I was diagnosed Nov last year with diabetes and before I go onto chronic meds I thought I would first see how I could address this using natural supplements and diet change. So far I have started a keto diet and radically removed sugars and carbs and any processed foods.Fats I am using butter, ghee, coconut oil and extra virgin olive oil. I am additionally doing intermittent fasting with an 18hour fasting window per weekday and weekends I eat 3 meals a day. when I socialize I try to eat around… read more

Why Isn't The The Info About The Benefits Of Low Carb Diet For Diabetics, Reaching More People?
A DiabetesTeam Member asked a question 💭

It appears that a lot of diabetics are not aware that they need to be limiting their carb intake (in addition to the sugar they eat). I'm not sure what info (if any) new diabetics ARE getting. But believe the "low carb" message is essential. Egads!! My own doc never mentioned it. I only found out from an earlier experience with my diabetic cat. Is the benefit of low carb still being debated? Come to think of it, the DPP class I attended online didn't mention it either????

Are You Automatically A Type 1 If You Take Insulin?
A DiabetesTeam Member asked a question 💭

There seems to be a great misconception out there that the "treatment used" is how the Type of Diabetes is determined

Insulin is a treatment for Diabetics, ALL Diabetics IF they NEED it

Type 1 Diabetics have an auto-immune disease that "within days" destroys their own ability to produce insulin - without insulin they will die within a week or two

They (Type 1's) need insulin from minute one of diagnosis and currently there is not other treatment to help keep them alive

L.A.D.A. Diabetics… read more

How Is Diabetes Defined In The Medical Community?
A DiabetesTeam Member asked a question 💭

All of us here have either been diagnosed with Diabetes or have someone close to us that have been given the news

So what is the "criteria" that separates us from Joe or Jane SugerEater?

Currently it is simply having an A1C, above 6.5% (47.5 mmol's in the IFCC scale) "twice in a row" measured 90 days apart

That's it, that's all - that "test" is all that is required for the Doc to determine "You have Diabetes"

No matter what you do after that, no matter how you control your blood sugar - no… read more

Do You Hate Being Called "Diabetic"?
A DiabetesTeam Member asked a question 💭

Every 5 years the leading experts in the treatment of Type 2 get together at this big conference and make changes, based on new information, to the "consensus guidelines" that are used by the EU, UK and most of the Commonwealth and the United States, that become the national medical guidelines

So whether I post up something from the ADA's US Guidelines or from Diabetes Australia (or Canada or the UK), the only difference in the paragraph will be some spelling changes

Anyhow, in their latest… read more

Absolutely true

Good Day Warriors. Do You Know Many People In Your Community Who Are Diabetic.
A DiabetesTeam Member asked a question 💭

According to data demographics in the USA.

We have been told that the diabetes incidence of the general population of the USA is almost 12%

Diabetes is much more common in the 65+ age group than we were led to believe.
29.2% of all adults 65 are diabetic.
By age 75 it is almost 35% diabetic.

So as diagnosed with diabetes, we are not alone. We are almost 1 in every 3, 65 year olds as diabetic.

In my church, there are 11 of us 65 +. All but 3 are diabetic
How have I obtained this… read more

Has Any One Hard Of. "1.5 Diabetes"
A DiabetesTeam Member asked a question 💭

I was informed that I am not a typical diabetic because I was 32 years old when I first was diagnosed with type 2. (first misdiagnosis), than I was diagnosed as, type 1 adult onset Mellitus Autoimmune Diabetes, (2nd wrong) now I'm told that I actually have, LADA Diabetes "1.5 Diabetes" or Latent Autoimmune Diabetes.. the worst is that I've never heard of it. Why is it so hard to understand..

Are You Happy With The Information And Care You Get From The Doctor That Helps Manage Your Type 2?
A DiabetesTeam Member asked a question 💭

As Type 2 Diabetics we are predominantly treated by a Primary Care Physician, Internist, Family Doctor (different names depending where you live) - but essentially the "maintenance mechanic" of the medical world

They may know next to nothing, a little or quite a bit about diabetes and probably in excess of 99% of them simply use the Treatment Guidelines that have been adopted by (at least) all of the countries represented by our group - so they are using a "professional" plan to treat you that… read more

Has Anyone Had Weight Loss Surgery To "cure" Diabetes?
A DiabetesTeam Member asked a question 💭

I have been told that after having this surgery I would no longer have to treat my diabetes. However I am wondering if I would be trading one set of problems for another. Since I have a weight problem being approved is not a problem, but I prefer to do things as naturally as possible. Some insight would be helpful and appreciated.

Does Type 2 (T2) Diabetes Make You Prone To Developing Other Diseases?
A DiabetesTeam Member asked a question 💭

Thanks (mostly) to Diabetes UK, this a list of diseases and our risk of developing them.

I left out Peripheral Neuropathy, Retinopathy or Dementia which ARE common in Type 2 (T2)

So here goes:

Celiac Disease – a gluten triggered autoimmune disease with NO LINK to T2

Thyroid Disease – both Hyper/Hypo disorders - MORE Common in T2

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) – effects almost 10% of women – PCOS can trigger T2 but T2 does NOT cause PCOS

Diabetic Cheiroarthropathy – (ya, I can’t pronounce… read more
