Thank you so much. My highest known # is 33.5 which alarmed me. I will hopefully find some good medical specialists. Your help is much appreciated.
I was dxd during a medical emergency and prolonged hospital stay. In the hospital, you get insulin. So when I was discharged, they sent me out with insulin. I started with 15 units of Lantus at night, with 4 units of Novalog with meals. The Lantus was subsequently upped to 20 units where it remained til I started trying other meds. First Victoza, then when ins made that non-formulary, Bydureon. Bydureon worked well for me and I was able to wean off the insulin. Insulin gave me excellent control along with necessary lifestyle changes. I usually have a bedtime snack to tide me over til morning, something like pnut butter crackers or a small amount of quality chocolate, nothing big...nuts is also a good snack and I keep them on hand always. i pay about 8-9 dollars for the bag of unsalted nuts mixed with dried fruits, but it does last a while and is good fiber also. Carrots and celery too. You get the idea. Keeps the body happy til morning and I rarely have trouble with dawn phenomenon. If my numbers are high in the a.m., then I need to watch out for infection of some kind as that's usually the problem. Hope this helps some.
Thank you so much Suecsdy. I am thinking that taking basal insulin will help. My readings have elevated given significant life events; what used to average 6.9 is now 25...so I am desperate to find something that works without side effects. Would you mind sharing your experience? Thank you kindly.
I did for about a year and a half. 20 units Lantus at night and Novalog with meals.
