I gained a significant amount of weight when I first started this insulin. Is that a common side effect? Do other types of insulin cause weight gain. I should also mention I am "cash pay," meaning I do not have insurance so the insulin would have to be something I can obtain, over the counter that doesn't require a prescription.

I have used Lantus now for several years. I have had no weight gain. I feel sorry for those in the US who need to use insulin. I Have heard about the horrific price gouges required to buy it. So much for Big Pharma! Here in Australia, I pay a maximum $40 for a year's supply of it. Oh dear, democratic socialism is SO bad!!!

Yes, that's right. I get my insulin from Walmart for around $25 a bottle. I am cash pay and it also doesn't require a prescription.

This is so sad. There is no real substitute for proper insulin. Here in Oz the price is subsidised by the federal government. I pay a maximum of $40 for a year's supply ( at twenty units a day).
Lobby your federal politicians for controls to be placed on prices. Report from the US are saying that some people are dying because they are rationing their insulin.

Insulin is the fat storage hormone, so goes to figure if you are adding additional insulin when you are insulin resistant, you'll gain weight.

Yes. Apparently it is. I've been Type 2 on meds for 14 yrs. Just on insulin for 2 yrs and gained about 25 more lbs. My BS are in check but haven't bee nable to lose weight until now. I started exercising every day just dog walking for 30 mins and jumping on the elliptical for 30 mins. Also, because it kick started my metabolism I have been able to decrease the amount of daily insulin I take.
