Meformin

A DiabetesTeam Member asked a question 💭
London, ON

Hi, I just started metformin today. My A1C was 7.1. It's 500mg two pills twice a day. I'm just wondering if this is the norm to start, I have IBS and am nervous. I only took one this morning even though I'm suppose to take two. Anyone else started on two pills twice a day? Thank you.

Hi, I have type 2 and IBS my dr said never take metformin with bowel issues it will only make it worse. Once I stopped Metformin a lot of my IBS-D sorted itself out. I still have episodes but not as bad as when I was on Metfromin hope this helps you. Deb

I take two 1,000 mg in the morning and at night. Never had any side effects
Metformin is being studied as an anti aging drug and an anti cancer supressor.

Since you have IBS, ask your doctor for Metformin extended release. Regular metformin will have you doing the metformin mambo. No fun.

I take 2 in AM and 2 in PM. I do have IBS too. Yet, it has never been a problem with me taking metformin like this.
