Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease in which “the body’s immune system starts to make antibodies that are targeted directly at the insulin-producing cells of the pancreas (islet cells) Over time, the immune system gradually destroys the islet cells, so insulin is no longer made and the person has to take insulin every day, from then on.
Type 2 diabetes is considered a progressive disease, which means that insulin resistance can worsen over time. This can result in the pancreas needing to produce more and more insulin to overcome the resistance. As the pancreas works harder and harder, eventually insulin producing cells can ‘burn out’ and stop producing insulin. This is why some people with type 2 diabetes end up needing to take insulin in the later stages of the disease.

Type 1 is auto immune - the bodys antibodies attack the insulin prodicing cells n kill the ability to produce the hormone insulin.
Type 2 is the bodies in ability to process its own insulin that it makes correctly thus being insulin resistant. Some one who is type 2 can need outside insulin if their body no longer procides enough insulin. But just because a t2 is on insulin it doesn't mean they are now type 1.
Type 1.5 is late onset type 1 diabetes and is again auto immune in nature but it presents itself as type 2 until somehing changes n a cpetide test is dun to confirm that the person is really a type 1 diabetic.
