We just went to a specialist who said eat what you enjoy but in moderation and counting carbs works best.

no processed food such as white bread, white rice, french fries, lunch meat. Try to stay with veggies and protein like baked chicken. Eat food high in natural fiber. I hear oatmeal, steel cut is good and I had chopped apple and nuts.

The lower the carbs the better and the darker the greens the better. Make sure you get enough protein also and make sure the carbs you eat and not drink are the good carbs and not the bad carbs. Carbs should always be eaten and not drank. It will always be a fight with your brain as your brain will want you to eat the wrong things so you have to get pretty rigid with yourself and listen very carful to what your body is telling you and you will know this as you will start feeling better when eating the proper foods along with the proper portions. It is not easy but the sooner you can do it the better and the longer you don't you will pay the price down the road in years to come. You should do research on all your meds, food and the Doctors that you have as it is very easy to check out a Doctor online and can be done even on this site. You will have many trial and errors and two of the best things you can do is to drink plenty of water and at least walk for thirty minutes everyday and it helps greatly. Always be prepared for a sugar low and should have some type of I.D. on you and a list of meds you take. Also you should keep sugar pills, water or some type of sugar paste like for a cake so you can react quick on it. But try to eat all the dark green veggies you can and a salad everyday. You have to learn that most people around you have no idea how a diabetic person must eat and drink but they all tell you they do. Remember this NOT two people are the same so what works for you may not work for someone else! Just like when you get a sugar low and you do not drink a diet soda but you do drink a regular soda because you need the sugar. Peanut butter and crackers are also good for a sugar low or a sugar hi as it will take about twenty minutes to get you in a good reach. I hope this has helped you some and yes so much to learn but better now than sorry later. A lot of use that have had it for many years were not told the truth about it and were given pills and told to take them for a lifetime and went years before we found out and now suffer for many side effects and paying the price for it do to the Government not telling us the truth! I am very rigid with it but have also been paying the price for what I did not know about it and I do research on everything first and some of the Doctors get real mad about it and I have left some Doctors also. You have to be very careful with what you read and compare to others also. Much false information is still out there and even I have spent thousands of hours on it and learn new things all the time. I wish you the best of luck and someone is always on the site so if you have a question or whatever it may be please say it as this is the only way to learn as I tell my daughter that everyday you get up you can learn something new till the end of life if you really want too!
