Are their diabetes nurses you can talk to? You need to find out why your blood sugar is running so low. How much insulin are you taking vs how much you are eating. I know it is scary when they get low. I have a tendency to over eat when it gets low. If all else fails....go to the ER or Urgent Care. Does your Dr. know that you are scared about this? Your A1c is wonderful but if you are running too low all the time....then a medication/insulin dose needs to be adjusted.

My best advice to anyone dealing with diabetes, metabolic syndrome, on insulin resistance is listen to your body. I had suspected that I was diabetic for at least 2 years prior to finally being screened and learning for sure 16 months ago. I began to have severe pains in my feet that kept me awake at night and problems with my eye sight. Rather than take a diabetes med to artificially control my BG so I could eat whatever I craved, I opted to go the LCHF lifestyle route. My BG has gone from 350 plus to normal (under 100 for me). My foot pains have disappeared and my vision has returned to normal. Of course if a diabetic is taking meds, they need to adopt a new way of eating under a doctors supervision because of the danger of ketoacidosis.

I am not on insulin so a lot of your numbers don't mean much to me except for the A1c. Under 6 is a good rating. Try to eat every few hours. The goal is to keep you blood sugar level through out the day. Always remember to eat breakfast that is crucial. My neighbor doesn't and she can't understand why her sugar levels and A1c are out of control.

It sounds like if you took steps to correct the lows you may have taken too much. An A1c of 5.5 is good. My understanding is an A1c under 6 is good. I am presently at 7.7. Be sure to bring your logbook When you see your doctor. If he does not pay more attention to those dangerously lows I would think you should consider changing Doctors. Oh yeah, you should have a glucagon kit in case your blood sugars goes below 40. Hope things get better.
