You can add it to hot water with a shake of pepper or you can buy the tablets. Its also good for a cold as a paste on your chest

I have been taken off Metformin as it can cause liver (I think) problems.

Yes, but add a little black pepper to help it be absorbed . I use it in my morning smoothie.
