Is There Any Alternative To Metformin?

A DiabetesTeam Member asked a question 💭
London, UK

I'm so fed up with the side effects I give myself days off. I know I shouldn't, but visiting the toilet 5-8 times a day is getting me down. Slow release tablets help but not much. Is there no alternative??

I also had to get off metformin for the same reason.

There are several alternatives, but expect them all to have higher prices. Ask your doctor for details, after telling him or her about the side effects.

I was on metformin for over a year and had to stop taking it because of 4-5 trips to toilet every morning and never knowing when the diareah would hit me.

They took me off it and gave me a once a day long acting insulin. I take Lantus one shot a day in the morning before I start my day.
