I have been in 2 different hospitals in recent months and the hardest fight I have had at both was trying to get the staffs to give me my insulin as I need it and on a proper schedule. I finally had to smuggle in my own from home and take care of my self or they would have killed me. both places have acted like I know nothing and have placed some slidng scale and schedule they dreamed up that have nothing to do with the reality of the situation. last place would not give me any long term… read more
I used to be a nurse. Nurses have a tendency to specialize these days. Unfortunately diabetes is just another disease. I agree that they should know because of the prevalence of it now. There are diabetic nurses these days which is good. If you have a chance when you leave hospital you could mention your concern on the evaluation of your stay. If they don't give you one ask for one. Hope this helps.
@A DiabetesTeam Member Have you heard of CGM? Dexcom has something similar.
I meet a man who lives in Isreal, And we began talking, and he told me he was diabectic.
He then showed me a SCANNER, that he passes over a patch and needle inserted in his waist, that it registered his Blood Sugar At all times.
I asked where I could get such a device, and he told me They were new in isreal, but did not think they were in the states yet.
If anyone out knows of such a device , please inform me. thanks VIC KABAK
I know what you mean. I sympathize with you for sure. We need to be our own advocates now.
I was fortunate enough to be able to have a 7 week workshop\education class on it all! My share of cost came as a shock to me. But it did really help. I lost the materials and I am so frustrated, because it broke it down so well! There are lots of books, web sites etc. Just keep researching! You are your own best advocate!!! Good Luck!
