Does Anyone Eles Sugar Go Up When They're In Pain?
A DiabetesTeam Member asked a question 💭

I've had a migraine headache and nausea earlier in the week and my sugar jumped up really high. Could it have been that I was in alot of pain and nauseated?

Yes, that could be the reason, pain = stress. and stress can elevate blood sugars. Also medication may do it, if you took pain killers or other meds. Also changes in food during that time may have a hand in it too. If you ate more carbs for instance, such as bread. cereal, rice, or fruits. There can be many causes for elevated blood sugar, so any time our bodies are out of their regular routine, we may expect to see higher or lower blood sugar numbers. Hope you feel better soon. Keep an eye of the blood sugars.

Yes, that might just be likely. When I am in pain, first, the pain is on my mind. Just thinking about my pain causes me to be stressed out, first mildly, then more acute. Stress is known to cause rises in blood sugar. Right now, I have my husband's declining health on my mind. The result has been that my blood sugars have jumped up into the 300s. I am unsure of the nausea, yet yes, I have felt nauseated more than once not so long ago. I hope this helps. Take care of yourself. Do something about getting rid of those headaches. Even mild headaches can affect your blood sugar.

Yes. Pain, stress, diet, mobility, and just about everything in life that affects your body in any way can (and usually will) affect your blood sugars. I have had elevated numbers since my surgery in December and they are attributing it to the high levels of pain I have been in since then.
