Members shared diverse perspectives on the best sweetener options for people with diabetes, with stevia and monk fruit emerging as the most frequently recommended alternatives to Splenda due to their plant-based origins and zero-carb profiles. Several members cautioned that honey, while offering potential health benefits, actually contains more carbohydrates than regular sugar (17g vs 12.6g per tablespoon), though one member reported success using a controlled combination of raw honey and stevia to achieve an A1C of 6.2. A recurring theme was the tension between seeking healthier substitutes and the reality that many artificial sweeteners have aftertastes or potential health concerns, leading some members to simply reduce their overall sweetness intake or use small amounts of real sugar instead.
