Blood Glucose Testing
A DiabetesTeam Member asked a question 💭

My readings of blood glucose vary between 12 and 15 m.mol/l and have beenfor the last 18months since getting a meter with a memory. I feel like saying "so what" as I eat a low carb diet , and no sugars or cakey foods but then I have never eaten such , I generally eat protein rich and loads of veg and salad and no alcohol. I do feel like giving up. Help !!!!!!!

I agree exercise really does lower your numbers...doesn't have to be a full blown work out, I find walking is best for me

It is like why am doing all this for. Its a lot of info to absorb and when it does not change anything its soul destroying. Just plod on and it does work in the end, The main thing I stopped eating was bread I still eat potatoes and rice along with pasta, but in small amounts. Find something that suits you as we are not all the same and our bodies process foods differently. I don't eat much meat but I never have, I don't eat cheese as allergic to dairy. So my protein intake is quiet low. Just try adjusting different foods you do eat and see if that makes a difference. Just don't give up, I don't drink alcohol but if I want something I have it in small amounts and that has worked for me. My levels were 10-14 now they are 3-6 most of the time. Do what suits you so you don't become disheartened that is no fun and it becomes a chore. An idiots guide to diabetes is brilliant and puts it all in to prospective. Good luck xxx

Pippa good for you for keeping track of your numbers and walking the dog! Always higher numbers upon waking for most of us. Exercise really does lower your number. I have never been very active but I find I can do the half hour every day for 5 days and then take the weekend off and WOW does it make a huge difference . If you have a huge spike then taking the dogs for a walk will lower your number. I fall asleep if I have a spike after eating sometimes. Especially after dinner when I am tired.

there are other ways of getting some exercise....lifting light hand weights while sitting, leg lifting, ankle roations, arm reaches etc....they all add up and do help to keep bs levels down...sorry to hear about your back...hope you are able to recover quickly
