Education
A DiabetesTeam Member asked a question 💭

I am continually shocked by the lack knowledge by some people about their own health. Diabetes is not a scrapped knee. It needs to be managed and if it is, a good quality of life is possible. I keep reading posts asking some basic questions that should have been addressed by health professionals at the time of diagnosis. Further self education is the key to having good blood sugar results. Whining that other people don't help does not are not productive, if it is to be, its up to me should be… read more

When I was initially diagnosed, I was in the hospital. I didn't get any basic questions answered. I was told by the nurse that my blood sugar & A1C were elevated and that the doctor put me on Metformin. The diabetic educator came to my room to instruct me. However, I was on the way out to be taken for an MRI. And they discharged me before she was able to come back. I went for almost 2 months before I was finally able to see the Diabetic Educator in my physicians office. So please be aware, that for some people, these sites are the only place to find out information. And it feels more comfortable asking others that are in the same situation for advice. Other websites provide too much information that can cause overload or can become confusing.

The Bible said: people perished because lack of knowledge. When we educate, even this days when technology is so available & advanced I dare to say no excuse, to ASK & u shall receive. To me this silent killer "diabetes" is a daily challeng, fight againts, a wake up call, since my 1st heart attack, today fighting Peripheral Diabetes Neuoropathy= nerve damage. Pls. take care of your body!! 😉🎸

I agree, my issue was what Dr recommended to eat for diabetes clashed with what I had to eat for heart condition. I researched and combined the two. I am down 33 pounds, from size 22 to 14, and a1c went from 7.4 to 6.2. I firmly believe we are our own advocates.

No need to eat "good old plain food". Spices, herbs and some self education......try a diabetes magazine for receipes.........and you can have a wonderful diet which will make your friends envious. Its all in your own hands.

I have taken this more seriously. It's very very difficult. Especially the diet etc. I eat good old plain food. Oh well shame on me. I do read about diebetis and very chance I get. I should go to a dietician and ask her to make me a simple meal plan. For a week. But I keep plugging along.
