Pumps And Tresheab
A DiabetesTeam Member asked a question 💭

my endo put me on Tresheba 100 units every 3 days. She wants me to go on a pump and I have an appt on Tuesday for a 7 day trial. Do any of you wear a pump and what kind? I THINK MY INSURANCE IS GOING TO GO CRAZY.

I had a @pump for several years and went off of it as the supplies are 100 bucks every 3 months and the hose kept getting in my way at work and I work around heavy duty magnets which are a big no no for the @pump.If I was a office worker, a truck driver and other jobs that don't require a lot of physical activity a pump is a excellent choice for diabetics ..But, I would have to go home and change my site as I tore it out over the course of the day or it was all bloody and insulin wasn't getting into my body.... I was not happy with it because of the fact is if your job is very active...very sweaty and a lot of moving around meant I would most times have the change the site on day 2 instead of day 3 which means I would have to beg to get supplies sooner then the insurance would pay for it....not including the 20% I had to pay the 1400 bucks out of pocket...which they financed of course but still that was a little over a 100 a month for the year...you cant get a new one for 3-4 years if I remember right also.. My insurance didn't throw a fit..that went very smooth and I would expect yours would be the same. As it can be seen as saving money in the long run if your treatment works out. It didn't save me any money because of what I said above.Matter of fact the hose was always sticking out and getting caught and ripping out at the worst time and I would either have to go home to get a new hose in or carry one with me...remember you get a limited amount of sets..If your a officer worker or work in a job that is not terribly active or physical then a @pump is all for you. Good Luck.

I use a Medtronic mini 630G for the last couple of weeks. I couldn't get my numbers stabilized enough with shots, so went to the pump. It is definitely different, but in some ways easier. No more shots and your only using one type of insulin not two. the pump give me about a unit an hour and then you bolus for meals. All you have to do is tell it how many carbs your eating and it figures out the rest. My numbers have been a lot better with it, though I had to try a different infusion set from the one I initially started on.
