Why Does Dehydration Increase Blood Sugar Levels
A DiabetesTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hello, I am reading the current issue of WebMD diabetes magazine. The article "How can the summer heat affect diabetes control?" states: Dehydration increases blood sugar levels...

QUESTIONS:

1) Where does the sugar come from as to increase blood sugar levels? I ask this question because I monitor my blood sugar before bed, during the night and before breakfast. My blood sugars increase from bedtime to before breakfast.

2) What must we do as to reduce our body's ability to increase blood… read more

@New commer; Sugar comes from the food you eat which when digested converts into glucose. That you taking Diabetic medics means your pancreas either produces insufficient or no insulin to regulate your blood sugar. Not taking water results in dehydration which will then result in you having concentrated blood glucose. Take in a lot of water.

Well lets see... Dehydration causes all body fluids to be thicker. This concentrates the sugar in the blood. Also can make it difficult to get blood drawn, etc. If dehydrated severly this can deplete the body of potassium. I have been hospitalized with this problem and the lack in potassium actually caused my heart to cramp. Very scary.

Having a higher reading in the morning is extremely common in all diabetics. You can control this to some degree by having a 15 carb snack right before bed which includes a small amount of protien.

Our sugar levels rise in the heat with something to do with our kidneys. And the blood gets concentrated. So drinking plenty of water is required. And i was told that our bs readings go back 24 hours of what we had to eat. Thats what i know.
