A lot of diabetics become sensitive to different bread products, but not all. I can eat some bread daily, but I find eating multigrain bread products are better for me. They keep my sugars far lower than white bread products and keep me feeling fuller longer.
Your blood sugar reading done two hours after breakfast should tell you if your bagel choice is good for you or not. If your blood sugars are ok, then truthfully, as long as you feel full and fine until lunch, go for it.
However, protein is very important to diabetics and a little should be taken at every meal. Protein can be found in meats, eggs, peanut butter and some multigrain bread products to name off a quick list. You may want to round out your meal with some low fat yoghurt and a few blue berries, raspberries, but again, it is what your sugars tolerate. Personally, these days I like to eat a bigger breakfast and lunch because it is easier to burn off these calories and carbs with daily stuff of life, then have a lighter supper.

So it turns out that bagels made with white flour are TERRIBLE. They're like the worst possible kind of white bread! There are whole-grain bagels available, but they're very difficult to find. If you want bread for breakfast, though, I would recommend switching to whole-grain bread to toast, unless you can find that rara avis, the whole-grain bagel. I have yet to find any in the grocery store, and I live in a place where other whole-grain bread products--great ones--are very easy to find. One thing that is becoming increasingly popular is sprouted-grain bread--wheat berry, ancient grain-sprouted, etc. Great stuff, very flavorful! Good luck!

Most diabetics can not tolerate the bagel or the oatmeal. Shoots the sugar thru the roof. But, if you guys can eat that and stay in control awesome! Go to diabetes.org where you can learn what to eat, when to eat it, portion control, carb counting and so much more. Also, diabetesmealplans.com is really good on helping with planning healthy, low carb meals.
