I would stay away from toast and Jam.
I have to avoid carbs to keep my BG in the 5s.
There are plenty alternatives to carbs and sugar.
By the time you feel the effect of high blood sugar you are already doing damage.
I do not agree with the notion that you only need to test if you feel bad.
I would suggest a new doctor.

I have had diabetes for 3 years have not been on any diabetes med for about a year I have gone from 7.3 to 6.8 in 6 months I stay away from wheat and I keep my carbs at about 50grams a day I read food labels like mad and I watch the ingredients carefully 1st I was just watching the sugar grams on the label and if it said 10grams of sugar I didn't think that was bad but it would spike my sugar then I started reading the ingredients and found like 3 forms of different fats and 4 forms of different sugars. Read peanut butter jars why does peanut butters need 2 forms of oil and 3 forms of sugar when all you need it peanuts and salt? If you look on the backs of oatmeal and steel cut oatmeal which I eat different brands have different grams of carbs and sugar I go with the least amount of ingredients on the packaging, eat a lot of veggies and fruit and plenty of protein. I am not a sweet eater but I like my chips but I eat trisket crackers and cheese for the salt and plenty of nuts. I would also look for a new doctor and i hope this helps in any way.

Metformin side effects seldom cause dizziness (if at all). Your A1C is good though the jam is loaded with sweetener. Sounds like LOW blood pressure as high blood pressure seldom causes symptoms unless it's sky-high. Do you have a BP monitor at home? If so, check it from time-to-time. Is dizziness worse when you rise from lying or sitting?

What is your blood pressure? Do the three different positions. Sitting, standing and laying down. Normal blood pressure while sitting is 120-130/80-90
