When will GP's diabetes clinics open? My last check was February. In Tayside area
Yes I agree, my A1C was last checked in March 2020, was diagnosed Aug 2019, I believe I need blood tests as back then my adrenal glands were failing, they stopped my steroids and never rechecked if they are OK and lately I am having hypos severe ones and I am off diabetic medication since end of may, if my adrenal glands are failing means my cortisol levels are low and require steroids to treat, might explain why i am having hypos without medications. I have 4 herniated discs and 1 is torn, suppose to be receiving nerve block injections before putting me on surgery list to fix the torn disc, yet no call for the nerve blocks yet, so mobility is reduced and pain is high, I too need follow up, I have 18 diseases with no cure and 5 are autoimmune, was put on Plaquenil for the autoimmune diseases, but this was done over a phone interview, no one checked me since, Plaquenil can cause severe hypos even in non diabetic and I am on the smallest dose that exists, obviously I need more blood tests done done, but nope unable to reach doctors and CLSC restricted in their blood drawing because of Covid, my dad has lost 24 lbs in 2 months without dieting and still eating the same as before, he is 79 doctor ordered blood tests be done at his home and not in hospital, he is still waiting, he had thyroid issues and his medication might need to be stopped if this is the case, yet nope doctor phoned him, never examined him either and he has swollen legs and yellow fluid leaking. Mom has a sinusitis and spoke to doctor over the phone, started antibiotics yesterday evening, no physical exam, no xray either to prove this. I can only hope she does not have Covid as she has a fever also. So yeah we need access to our doctors but Covid is preventing this. Good thing for myself I was a nurse 35 yrs, so I am able to cope as much as I can with what I know of my 18 diseases.
I can only imagine people such as my parents 74 and 79 yrs old stuck at home. I have not seen them since between christmas and new years as last winter I was too ill to travel, then Covid came in. Oh well we do what we can.
Hi JohanneCPoirier, thanks for sharing as this message contains a lot of life experience information that not many of us experience. This situation could very well be us or our family member so it just causes me to think, be thankful, and have empathy for others going through much more difficult life experiences with their T2 diabetes than I.
I would like my usual check. I'm ok and, don't think, my medication needs amended but there are plenty people who need checked. There must be people not yet formally diagnosed which is also a worry
I have only spoken to my Endo doctor once on the phone in April, had not seen him since Oct 2019, as he had referred me to Rheum to solve other issues to help with my Diabetes. But I have spoken to pharmacist at times when needed advice when in a pinch, during Covid they have special mandate & orders and can adjust medications for people who are already diagnosed and on medications for their diagnosis, they can change prescription also if need be (at least in our Province they do, anything related to medications they are more then apt to help out, if they need to contact a doctor they can do so also) check with your pharmacist if you cannot reach your doctor.
