Welcome to the group.
I would follow doctors advice.
I myself was conflicted recently as I ended my career while on sick leave since Oct 1st 2019. I am newly retired since March 29th 2020. I watched the news and I so wanted to help, as I have 35 years of health care behind me, I could be useful as a nurse right now. But I had to come to term with the fact I have 17 diseases with no cure, and 4 of them are auto-immune. I have 4 herniated discs in my back and 1 is torn and will need surgery in the future, which is why I was on sick leave till I retired. But I have ICU experience and ER, even if I had been working in Dialysis the last 15 years. I retired early (33 yrs as a registered nurse, 2 years before that as private home care and PAB in a hospital while studying to be a nurse) because my health was failing. I felt obligated to come out of retirement as government is recalling retired health care workers. But as I stated there are several reasons why I ended my career while on sick leave, the diabetes was uncontrolled while working also as we did not have regular meal times or breaks. I have been living with Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis for 40 years and now I have rapidly progressing OsteoArthritis, I have to take care of myself now, even if part of me is pulling to want to help, I guess once a nurse always a nurse, but my health will not allow me, I am extremely high risk of getting this COVID 19 having those 17 diseases, the more you have the higher the risks.
I am now OK with the fact to just stay at home, but it took me a whole month to accept this. When a doctor tells you stay at home, then listen, as it is for your well being. But you may need a note from your doctor stating you have to stay at home.
