I had my stomach stapled 20 years ago as prevention for familial diabetes. My father was T1, mother T2 as well as all 4 of my sisters. At 59 I have now been diagnosed with T2. Finding it very hard to believe and finding it very hard to understand BS readings when I can hardly eat!! I will be seeing my PCP in a week but am very nervous about whether or not he will have any experience with my unique case.
Anyone else out there with the same parameters?
Thanks!!
Natalie
Thank you for your response. I am doing extremely well. I believe my lifestyle was the cause. I didn't eat well and was drinking Coke almost everyday!! Now after learning about labels it's amazing how my body has responded to my new habits!!! When admitted into the hospital I had an A1C of 17!!! My last test in February, my test came back at 7. I feel great and have appreciated the support of my family and friends. My PCP has been useless, never got back to me and I have been using the medical advice of my HRT doctor. I am doing great!!
I have never heard of any one have a stomach stapling done to prevent famial diabetes. Familial is genetics and you can not change that. You may of been able to slow it down but you can not change it. I know for me I'm trying to slow down the full blown T2 but I don't think it is going to work to much longer. My mother became a diabetic just before she turned 60. Her other family members that lived that long did become it too about at the same time. I'm the oldest of my siblings and I'm pretty sure they all will become T2 before long. This includes a sister who had a gastric bypass. I do hope you got the answers you werelooking for from your PCP.
