Was recently diagnosed as Type 2 diabetic. My original Glucose A levels were 11.2. Two weeks later (Feb 1) my A1C A level was measuring 10. I've changed my diet (following Dr Gundry food guide), no red meats, no dairy, mostly fish, chicken, turkey and lots of veggies/greens. Am down 16lbs so far (20 to go). I'm determined to defeat this diabetes with heathier food plan and exercise. Question/curious, how long do your figure it takes for one to see changes in A1C levels (without medications) or… read more
2 months with little or no carbs
Until about 15 years ago nobody in the Diabetes world talked about remission for Type 2 Diabetics
Then a bunch of researchers in the US (Look Ahead Study) and the UK (DiRECT Study) went on a mission to see what would happen if you "forced" Type 2's to lose weight, eat properly and get some exercise
What they found was that fully "half" could achieve remission if they met some basic criteria and actually stuck with the program
Today "Remission" is clinically defined as - maintaining an A1C… read more

Looking through a list of Team members I noticed that @A DiabetesTeam Member was diagnosed in 1993 - 29 years ago which certainly makes her one of the extreme veterans.
So I'm looking for a "shout out".
When were you Diagnosed??
Myself - 2016 (August) - Age 52

@A DiabetesTeam Member I tend to agree with you Bill. Probably 90% of those called Type 2 actually have Metabolic Syndrome - that will be the "new term" when everyone starts whining publicly about… read more

I got mine done today, it was 9.8 I was in shock, my morning readings are good always around 100's and the last month especially I had to lower insulin units because I would wake up in the 60's, I will have a lab test result in a week where blood was drawn, today it was done at a research clinic where they only pricked my finger, so I will wait for the other ones to have a better picture, the only consolation in all this is that my previous one was above 11 and I've taken action in changing my… read more
I will get my A1C March 25
I have been told that after having this surgery I would no longer have to treat my diabetes. However I am wondering if I would be trading one set of problems for another. Since I have a weight problem being approved is not a problem, but I prefer to do things as naturally as possible. Some insight would be helpful and appreciated.
Diabetes is caused by your bloods cells a/b
There is no cure by losing weight

According to data demographics in the USA.
We have been told that the diabetes incidence of the general population of the USA is almost 12%
Diabetes is much more common in the 65+ age group than we were led to believe.
29.2% of all adults 65 are diabetic.
By age 75 it is almost 35% diabetic.
So as diagnosed with diabetes, we are not alone. We are almost 1 in every 3, 65 year olds as diabetic.
In my church, there are 11 of us 65 +. All but 3 are diabetic
How have I obtained this… read more
