A DiabetesTeam Member asked a question 💭

I was just diagonised with diabetes , 18 mmol/l 3 month average .. I started a keto diet and doing a 16 / 8 fasting ... it has been 2 weeks now and I have got my morning sugars to 12 mmol/l and evening to 14 mmol/l ... should I keep doing what im doing and should i consider prescriptions ?

Really depends on you!! If what you’re doing is working for now, carry on as they say!! I would not rule out meds, eventually you might need them

I dont see my doctor until the 6 th of September so hopefully by then I can show a pattern of decreasing sugars levels .... The keto diet isnt too bad but I`m also avoiding eating meat as well other then fish and eggs ... I dont feel hungry so it isnt too bad of a diet plus fasting for 16 hours of the day ... I came across a video clip on youtube with dr. jason fung and he just made sense ... I figure why not try , I ended up in emergency 2 weeks ago with a slight scare , my left eye went sideways on its own ... third nerve pulsy due to diabetes ... This is my wake up call to get my health in order :) thanx for your reply ...

The goal is for lower blood sugars. I think the best way is naturally through diet and exercise. Sadly this doesn’t work for everyone. If your doctor thinks meds would would benefit you I would consider it. I use to take insulin 4 times a day, now I only take oral meds. Good luck.

I am considering the Keto diet. How do you like it.

Hi, David, it's best to ask your doctor he can answer the question for you.

Those numbers are still pretty high. My plan would be ; take the meds, get control, and then see about getting off the meds. It does happen.
