Have Any Diabetics Tried The Keto Diet?
A DiabetesTeam Member asked a question 💭

I am thinking of trying the keto diet or Paleo diet. any input on that? I take insulin right now but I wonder if it will help me get off of it or use less.

I've only been doing keto for about 2 weeks, but already see results. I now take 40 units Lantus from 80 units. Blood pressure has dropped. My BP was 194/117 when I started the pills.I'm sure cholesterol will drop since the body is using the fats in the diet as fuel rather than carbs. Before, I took the insulin as well as 3 other diabetes meds. Also, blood pressure meds, which I will be ditching soon. My glucose readings were 15-20 fasting and 18-28 later in the day. The reason I lowered my insulin is because I kept going quite low. 3-4. It has leveled out now, but as I am able to get my fat consumption up, the insulin will no longer be needed. Then I'm continuing to get rid of the meds, one by one. My doctor wanted me to go zero carbs but I don't think I can do that. Even kale has carbs. On keto, I try to stay about 20. It's almost become a game to me....haha

I'm on a keto diet. It stabilises BG for a long time and increases energy and satisfaction from food.

I still haven't gone completely Keto. I was trying the 3-1-2-1 diet where you can cheat 2 days a week but still the cheat days don't seem like cheat days to me plus you have to buy a lot of food I don't normally buy. I think I'm ready to ditch is and start the keto diet but I still haven't found enough easy recipes to keep me going more than 2 or 3 days. Guess I'll take a look at youtube again.
