I am not sure how you are defining "best medications" but the most widely used medicine for type 2 diabetes, @metformin, may cause weight loss, and the neuropathy medication gabapentin ((Neurontin) is considered weight neutral.

It is insulin and drugs that increase the production of insulin that are the main culprits in weight gain.
@MJT 10 yep you are right but I can't take metformin and in my case the gabapentin did cause weight gain which I dropped again as soon as I went off it. We are all different eh Thanx for the input always helps. look after yourself.
Truthfully I took both and lost weight while taking them.
I take metformin and gabapentin for my feet, if it makes you gain weight I wasn't told or I forgot. I take 3 metformin a day 500 each and 4 gabapentin a day 2 in the morning and 2 at bedtime. I don't know if this is too much. Our Doctors have changed you never know.
Are you on medicare?
