We should be testing our own BS at least each morning after fasting and before eating to get a baseline. Some need to test more often. That is the best way to stay in control of your blood sugar issues.

can you believe this. I am type 2 diet controlled and I buy my own test strips and meter. when I asked my Diabetic nurse how many carbs I should be eating per meal she asked me why I was even counting carbs. when I told her I test my blood and carbs spike my sugars really bad she told me I shouldn't even be testing with type 2 and if I carried on testing I would damage the nerves in my fingers. I am so confused . I need to test to see what my levels are so I can decide what to have for my next meal.

No Dr.or nurse ever told me that type 2 shouldn't test. I test 3X daily, for years...no nerve problems.

I have 2 at home and I carry 1 of them with me if I am going to go away for longer than a couple of hours.
I take my BSL before breakfast and before supper. I also use it to see if my level is too low or too high if I start feeling bad. Many of my readings fall between 80 to 120 when I don't snack too often or too much and I take the reading before I eat anything of my meal.
