I an NOT on insulin. I take metrformin in the evening. During the day my levels are dropping to the low 5s and high 4s. I am very very tired and feel off. Is this too low? Should I visit the doctor?
I have recently, about two weeks ago changed my eating to LCHF. I felt so bad last might that I had a glucose tablet. I understand that being on Metfomin prevents hypos but not sure what is going on.
Thanks
Rosiek
I would start a food journal and take it with me to the doctor. I think Dr. visit is in order. Hope you get to feeling better take care.
I was told you cant get 1000mg metformin any more Maybe that just where I live? I thought morning reading around 4-6 were ok and at night 6-8 were ok too.
@A DiabetesTeam Member this is the perfect situation you might consider see a D.O., doctor
You might have something going on with your thyroid or adrenal systems.
Our symptoms for high and low number can be identical, which is why we should take our readings before meals and in some cases 2 hours after. Also you can run into lethargic moments from your carb sources. Including forcing you to take a nap.
This is why I feel that our medical care should be completely over hauled and redesigned.
It should include all these issues and food allergy testing with a separate design for bread testing and the dopey low it can do to some patients.
Hi Rosie, sorry you are not well, I think you should go to the Dr's again, you may need a snack in between meals to help balance the metformin, I believe the ideal reading is around 4 -5 so to me that seems ok, Did the Dr send you to the ACT Health Services to go through all the issues? ie Diet, etc. I had several trips there when I was in Canberra and they were very helpful. But agree with others Dr first.
I would go to Dr to check as he may need to change meds as can be classed borderline low
