I experienced the same but if Glucose is measured at about 02h00 in the night it reads low. Morning reading is high. The group that I belonged to before told me that the if your level drops during night, your Liver will produce glucose to counteract but unfortunately it normally creates too much. Explaining high count in Morning. I did a test and took 2 slices of toast as I get to bed. Result: low reading in morning. Did this a few days and each day it was low. Took readings also at 02h00 and 04h00 and found to be higher as was before I used to take a snack at bed.
So if I do not feel like snack, then I discard the morning after's reading. This was confirmed by my Diabetes controlling Doc.
Hope this help.

It is called The dawn phenomenon. You can search the internet about it. I have it. BAsicly it means that your glucose goes low over night and the body automaticly kicks in to raise the glucose level. Is your morning numbers highe then when you eat? Cause that is kinda an example of what happens. Anyway, to prevent it, some stratigies I have seen included a protien snack before bed.

I take 20 mg of Amaryl a day. When I took it in the a.m. I had a very low drop (45 or 40) about 10:30 or 11:00. When I took it at night it dropped about 3:00. I split mine to 10 mg a.m. and p.m. and IT WORKS to help keep my sugars steady! The changes were made with my Dr.'s knowledge and he check up with me every time I have an appt. no matter what it is for!

I have found as SpangleB said that a small snack before bed seems to keep the liver from pumping out so much overnight. A single slice of toast (italian bread or 1/2 of a whole wheat sandwich thin), or my preference, a single Ghirardelli dark chocolate square just before bed usually keeps things to a dull roar, maybe an 8-10 point rise overnight usually. Maybe even a teaspoon of peanut butter. You really have to experiment and find out what works for you as everyone's body will react differently to different specific foods.

If I skip my bed time snack, I have a high morning reading. So I eat a couple of graham crackers with butter, or popcorn, with butter. The fat stabilizes, I was told.
