Best to get it checked out by your doctor. I had some pain in that area, and they checked me out for heart problems, luckily that was not the cause. It disappeared with time. However, it can indicate many, many thing from gall bladder symptoms, pancreatitis, pulled or overstretched muscle, kidney or any other organ an intestinal problem. So if it lasts more than a day or so, get it checked at the local ER or your doctor's office if you can see him quickly. It is probably nothing more than stretched muscle, but that should ease soon, if so.

If your pain is severe, then get to an ER and get it checked out. They have means to test by x-ray, scans, etc. I experienced severe pain in the lower right rib area and went to ER. Got admitted and told it could be possible heart attack, and I was kept on a monitor for a couple of days, and given heparin intravenously. After I was discharged I was sent for a chemical stress test, and another type of scan. All results were negative. So in the end, really no one knew what it was, but I felt better being attended to in the hospital, and thoroughly checked out.
