Metformin has been on the market since 1957, just in the US 90 Million prescriptions are written each year

50% of all Type 2 diabetics take metformin

It is a derivative of the "French Lilac" making it a Natural Treatment

It has been a generic medication since before you were born

It is safe, it is not going off the market

What you are probably referring to is one batch of slow release metformin got contaminated by a type of pollution called NDMA - a type of air pollution that somehow got into what was supposed to be a sterile lab

NDMA "might" cause cancer

A pound of Bacon contains more NDMA then a whole bottle of the contaminated pills contained - you probably breath more in a couple days in a big city then got into the pills

But it "shouldn't have been there" so the batch was recalled

Take your metformin

Uncontrolled Diabetes KILLS YOU 100% of the time - metformin helps prevent that

Hi @A DiabetesTeam Member, and all you warriors.
Metformin is plant based. The active ingredient was synthesized from a herb called french lilac.

Metformin does not cause cancer. Studies have shown that it actually protects from some forms of cancer. It also has many other benefits.

Lower the risk of cancer in persons with type 2 diabetes. These include cancers of the breast, colon, and prostate.

Lower risks for dementia and stroke. Some studies have noted less cognitive decline and a lower rate of dementia.

A lower rate of stroke, among people with diabetes taking metformin compared with those who were not taking it.

Slow aging, prevent age-related disease, and increase lifespan. Preliminary studies suggest that metformin may actually slow aging and increase life expectancy, possibly by improving the body's responsiveness to insulin, antioxidant effects, and improving blood vessel health.

It has almost 70 years of use, so long-term use causes almost no issues. So it is the safest diabetes medication available.
